A ‘site map’ is a list of the web pages that make up your website. It consists of links to each of your web pages that are grouped according to the architecture of your site. This makes it easy for both end-users (your site visitors) and the search engine ‘bots’ to access your web page content.
The way in which your web pages are linked, referred to as ‘site architecture,’ is very important to both the search engine optimization process and the quality of the end-user (your site visitor) experience.
A ‘site map’ is recommended for every website and required for search engine optimization. Search engine ‘bots’ crawl the world wide web by going from link to link to find and scan web page content. The search ‘bot’ is able to access all the web pages of your website by following the links in your ‘site map.’ For this reason a site map is very important, particularly for sites with dynamically generated web pages that do not include HTML links.
