Not to be confused with Google PageRank™, a proprietary algorithm developed by Larry Page, patented by Stanford University and used exclusively by Google to determine ‘link popularity,’ page rank refers to the listing position a page achieves in the ‘organic search results (also called ‘natural search results’) pages.
Search engine optimization is primarily concerned with preparing web pages to rank well within the organic search results. Ideally, on-going search engine optimization and management helps to achieve a high page rank, preferably within the top three listing positions of the first page of the search engine results pages for the keywords and phrases for which the web page was optimized.
A high ‘page rank’ is desirable because of the long-term lead and revenue generating opportunities presented by the increase in highly targeted traffic visiting your web pages.
