DMOZ, also called the Open Directory and ODP (Open Directory Project), is a multilingual open content directory of website links from the WorldWideWeb. The directory is managed by a group of volunteer editors who manage listings and manually select submitted websites to be included.
At one time inclusion in DMOZ was an important aspect of a comprehensive search engine optimization campaign; however, with the burst of web directories and specialized search engines that has hit the internet, DMOZ is no longer the force it once was. Another drawback to its manual selection process is the unpredictable speed with which these reviews are conducted. There is certainly no harm in submitting your website for review as long as you have other more reliable directory selections in your mix as well.
Remember, the principle reason for inclusion in a particular directory is to reach your targeted audience groups who are actively searching for what you offer, those whom you believe to offer you the best opportunity for business, and who are most likely to click on your link from the directory, offering you valuable inbound links that work to support your search engine ranking goals.
