Business Development Tips: What is a CTR – Click Through Rate?

The CTR, or click through rate, is a measurement generally applied to online advertising initiatives like banner ads, AdWords and other forms of pay per click advertising. The formula is:

number of clicks ÷ number of impressions = x %

Impressions refer to the ad as it is generated and displayed publicly. For example, if a banner ad received 10,000 impressions and was clicked 200 times the CTR would be 2%.

Whenever you engage in search engine marketing, whether through pay per click search engine programs or through website search engine optimization initiatives, it is critical to your success to ensure your content contains the right keywords/phrases to attract your target audience and that there is a compelling call to action to get them to click through to the landing page.
