Business Development Tips: What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a business opportunity where a seller/brand owner enlists others, called ‘affiliates’ to help sell or promote his business or products online. An agreement is signed between the parties that outlines the rules and compensation for participation in the program.

Google’s AdSense is an affiliate marketing program, where an affiliate website owner allows Google’s AdWords text ads to post on certain web pages. Every time a click occurs on an ad the affiliate generates revenue and will be compensated by Google according to the program agreement.

By making effective use of a diverse range of affiliate websites/web pages to drive targeted traffic to your business/brand, you can extend your market reach to attract a larger, more diverse population of your target audience groups. Additionally, you can boost your web page rankings in Google through increased relevant and highly targeted inbound links.
